Mystery over Tiger Woods' car crash after fling claims

TIGER WOODS crashed his car after his wife chased him swinging a golf club, it was claimed last night.

The world No.1 golfer sped from his home as Elin Nordegren allegedly ran behind hitting his Cadillac several times.

Woods, 33, lost control moments later, smashing into a fire hydrant then a neighbour's tree.

The accident comes two days after the National Enquirer magazine claimed the golfer was having an affair with New York socialite Rachel Uchitel.

His lawyers vehemently deny any romantic relationship.

The star was unconscious for six minutes after the early-morning accident.

When officers arrived on the scene, in the exclusive Isleworth suburb near Orlando, he was lying on the street drifting in and out of consciousness, with facial injuries.

They were told that Elin, 29, used the club to break the back window of the car and pull her husband to safety.

But according to a police source who spoke to US news website TMZ, the crash was part of "a domestic issue".

Another source at the site which broke the news of Michael Jackson's death said Woods' facial cuts were caused by Swedish model Elin.

There were initial fears that the star had been seriously hurt in the 2.25am smash. The 14-time Major champion was rushed to hospital but he was treated for minor injuries then released.

Police chief Daniel Saylor said his officers found Woods with his wife standing over him.

He added: "She was frantic, upset. It was her husband laying on the ground."

It is thought Woods smashed his head off the steering wheel when he hit the tree but the airbag in the powerful 4x4 did not inflate, which suggests he was not travelling above 33mph.

Police have confirmed he was not drunk but he could face other traffic charges if he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Officers are expected to visit the £2.4million mansion for a second time to question Woods after being turned away the first time because he was asleep.

He and Elin were married in 2004 and have two young children.
